This beautiful pair of Model 2 sconces, designed by Vittoriano Viganò under the guidance of Gino Sarfatti, was produced by Arteluce in Italy in 1950. The sconces feature round wall plates with a dark, brass patinated finish and adjustable arms equipped with a clever double-joint mechanism. This smart design allows the shades to be directed in almost any position, offering great versatility as uplights, downlights, or in any creative arrangement you can imagine. The aluminum shades, finished in an elegant off-white lacquer, are uniquely shaped like visors, enhancing their visual appeal.
Vittoriano Viganò’s design approach focused on enhancing human development and quality of life, seamlessly connecting disciplines from industrial design to large-scale urban planning. Celebrated as a leading figure in the Italian Brutalist movement, his multidisciplinary work earned him international recognition.
Born into a creative household as the son of painter and engraver Vico Viganò, Vittoriano studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1944. He established his own studio and began collaborating closely with Gino Sarfatti, initially as a consultant and eventually as Art Director of Sarfatti’s company, Arteluce. During this era, he not only designed the flagship store on Via della Spiga in Milan but also created notable designs like the VV Cinquanta luminaire series, known for their articulated metal cone arms. His exceptional contributions to architecture and design were honored in 1991 when he received the Italian Republic President Prize for Architecture from the San Luca Academy.
These sconces have been thoroughly inspected and cleaned in our atelier, ensuring they are in excellent condition and ready for use, including in the USA.
