This exquisite pair of Model 2 sconces, designed by Vittoriano Viganò and overseen by Gino Sarfatti, was manufactured by Arteluce in Italy in 1950. The sconces feature round, dark brass patinated wall plates and adjustable arms, thanks to a double-joint mechanism. This ingenious design allows the shades to be positioned in virtually any direction, making them versatile for use as uplights, downlights, or any playful configuration you desire. The aluminum lamp shades have an off-white lacquer finish and are shaped like visors, adding to their aesthetic appeal.
Vittoriano Viganò’s design philosophy emphasized a commitment to human development and improving quality of life, bridging various scales from industrial design to urban planning. Regarded as the most important Italian exponent of the Brutalist movement, his multidisciplinary talent has garnered international acclaim.
Born into a creative family as the son of painter and engraver Vico Viganò, Vittoriano pursued architecture at the Politecnico di Milano, graduating in 1944. After opening his studio, he collaborated closely with his friend Gino Sarfatti, initially as an advisor and later as the Art Director of Arteluce, Sarfatti’s company. During this period, he designed the flagship store on Via della Spiga in Milan and made significant design contributions, including the VV Cinquanta family of luminaires known for their articulated metal cone arms. In 1991, Viganò was honored with the Italian Republic President Prize for Architecture by the San Luca Academy.
This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is also suitable for use in the USA.
