This rare and unique wall-mounted desk, designed by Tobia Scarpa in 1978, was commissioned by Gianni Patuzzi for a private interior in Torino. Custom-made by Maxalto as part of a unique interior design project for this house by Patuzzi, it is a collector’s item that showcases Scarpa’s masterful blend of elegance and functionality. The desk features a maple structure with a refined walnut inlay on the top, giving it a rich contrast and a sophisticated look. The wall-mounted design on one side creates a stunning floating appearance, adding to its visual lightness and making it a perfect choice for a contemporary or modern setting.

This piece would pair beautifully with the iconic Africa chair, also designed by Tobia Scarpa, for a cohesive and stylish workspace. As this was originally also accompanied by 4 Africa chairs in the house where it was designed for. The desk is in very good original condition, showing only minor, age-related wear consistent with its history.

Adding to its provenance, the desk comes with original photos of the interior where it was used, as well as a sale declaration from the original owner, further establishing its rarity and importance in the world of collectible design.

Gianni Patuzzi was an Italian sculptor who, alongside Nerone Ceccarelli, co-founded the Gruppo NP2 in the 1960s. This artistic collective focused on experimental sculpture and innovative forms, blending modernist aesthetics with avant-garde concepts. Patuzzi and Ceccarelli’s collaboration within Gruppo NP2 explored new materials and techniques, pushing the boundaries of contemporary art in Italy. Their works often reflected abstract and dynamic forms, contributing to the evolution of post-war Italian sculpture and garnering attention from the art world for their unique and thought-provoking creations.
