Svend Aage Holm Sorensen fishing pole lamp Denmark 1950

Beautiful so called ‘fishing pole’ floor lamp designed by Svend Aage Holm Sørensen and manufactured by Holm Sørensen, Denmark 1950s. This lamp is smartly designed with a mix of materials. The cast iron black base is like the toe of a bird, making sure it’s heavy enough to stay steady. There’s a bent brass stem in the middle that connects the two teak wooden parts. The shade has slightly translucent textured plastic slats making the shade, when lit, a stunning glowing object.

This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is suitable for use in the USA. For US usage we could change the plug, or you can get a converter if needed for a floor or table lamp with transformer in it.

The Danish designer Svend Aage Holm Sørensen (1913-2004) is known for his self-produced lighting designs from the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Despite the timeliness of his designs on the vintage market, there is a lack of biographical information about the designer and his eponymous manufacturing company. It is assumed that Holm Sørensen designed lamps for the well-known Danish lighting manufacturers Fog & Mørup and Lyfa in the 1950s, before establishing his own lighting company, Holm Sørensen A/S to produce and distribute his own designs. Holm Sørensen’s style varies considerably, with designs from the 1950s truly reflecting the mid-century modern lighting style, with clear influences from the De Stijl and Bauhaus movements. His muted floor and table lamps contain the classic tripod base that was popular at the time, referencing designs such as J. A. Busquet’s H. Th. Pinocchio Lamp (1954).
