This elegant swivel floor lamp, designed and manufactured by Stilnovo, is a remarkable example of mid-century Italian design, seamlessly blending form and function. Its sophisticated aesthetic is exemplified by the adjustable shade, which bathes any room in a soft, ambient light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The fully adjustable shade and swivel arm add a level of versatility, making this lamp a multi-functional piece—perfect for focused reading light or as an additional uplight to enhance the ambiance, depending on your needs.
The lamp’s design is anchored by a luxurious round Carrara marble base, a timeless detail that exudes elegance. The stem, finished in a sleek black, is beautifully complemented by a brass arm that adds warmth and refinement to the overall look. Its signature Stilnovo yellow painted aluminum shade provides a clean, understated contrast to the darker elements, adding to the lamp’s modern charm. The Stilnovo sticker is also still present on the inside of the shade, which contributes to its authenticity.
In excellent original condition, this floor lamp is a rare find. It belongs to the first production of this model, a version that was later altered to a less refined form, though it continued to be produced until the 1970s. This early edition highlights the significance of this design in the Stilnovo oeuvre and is a perfect addition to any space seeking a touch of classic Italian design.
Bruno Gatta, the director and head of design at Stilnovo for much of its history, founded the Stilnovo publishing house in 1946 in Lainate, an industrial suburb of Milan. From 1952 to 1955, Stilnovo operated with true industrial logic, unlike other Italian brands such as Arredoluce and O’Luce. Experimentation with new materials and shapes was central to its production method. Until the late 1960s, most designs were produced by the company’s technical office, initially led by Bruno Gatta and later by Gaetano Scolari, bearing the brand’s signature. Bruno Gatta passed away in 1976 in his birthplace, Lainate.
