The Elegant Sunburst Lamp, designed and made by Stilnovo in Italy in 1960, is a refined variant of the famous 2055 lamp designed by Bruno Gatta. This stunning piece features a chrome-rounded ceiling plate from which three chrome-plated metal arms extend in different directions, creating a dynamic, almost sputnik-like appearance. At the end of each arm, there is a black-painted bowl with chrome pins attaching the shades, lending the design both visual contrast and structural sophistication.

The lamp’s chrome elements have developed a beautiful gentle patina over time, adding to its vintage appeal, while the black shades have been professionally refinished in their authentic original finish, preserving the integrity of the design. When lit, the lamp produces a soft, spherical glow, creating an ambient and modern atmosphere. Bruno Gatta, the director and head of design at Stilnovo for most of the company’s existence, played a key role in its rise to prominence. Founded in 1946 in Lainate, near Milan, Stilnovo quickly distinguished itself from other Italian lighting brands like Arredoluce and O’Luce by embracing a more industrial approach to production starting in the early 1950s. Under Gatta’s leadership, Stilnovo pioneered experimentation with new materials and forms, becoming known for its innovative and modern lighting designs. After his tenure, Gaetano Scolari took over the technical office, continuing the company’s legacy of groundbreaking design until Gatta’s death in 1976.
