Stilnovo

Milano 1946 – 1988
Lighting manufacturer

This ultra-rare and monumental floor lamp, designed and manufactured by Stilnovo in Italy during the early 1950s, is a true masterpiece of mid-century modern lighting design. Standing as a unique, large-scale piece, it is rarely found on the market, making it an exceptional addition to any serious collector’s portfolio.

The lamp features a striking combination of materials, including a solid round marble base, a conical-shaped teak wooden stem, and nine brass arms. Each arm is partly flexible, allowing for numerous adjustable positions, which gives the lamp a versatile and sculptural quality. The cream-painted shades are designed in the shape of small flowers, further enhancing the lamp’s captivating and organic form. The overall design evokes a Medusa-like appearance, with its sweeping, flexible arms and flower-shaped shades, making the lamp as much a work of art as it is a functional light source.

The shades, with their original cream-painted finish, show a charming patina and some paint loss, which only adds to the character and historical value of the piece. The lamp is in its original as found condition, showing age-related signs of wear, which is to be expected from a piece that is over 70 years old. Given the rarity and significance of this lamp, it has been left untouched, though restoration is possible upon request for those seeking a more refined look.

This floor lamp is a rare collector’s item, particularly for those who appreciate the elegance and innovation of 1950s Italian lighting design. It is fully functional, having been checked and rewired for safety and performance. The lamp is equipped with two on/off switches located on the center pole, allowing the user to control each set of lights independently.

As a highly sought-after piece from Stilnovo, this lamp is a stunning testament to mid-century Italian design and a truly unique addition to any collection.
