This minimalist double shaded table Lamp, designed by Bruno Gatta and manufactured by Stilnovo in Italy in 1955, exemplifies mid-century modern design. This lamp features a base made from solid Carrara marble, providing a sturdy and elegant foundation. The angled brass stems add warmth and sophistication, beautifully contrasting with the cool marble. The lamp has two dish-shaped shades that appear round from above and half-rounded from the side. These shades are securely attached to the stems, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
Emitting a soft, focused glow, this lamp is ideal for reading or working, making it a perfect addition to a desk or small table. It is maintained in excellent original condition, retaining its authentic Stilnovo sticker on the inside of the shade, a mark of its quality and heritage. Similar to the 8023 lamp, this piece is not only a functional lighting solution but also a timeless design artifact reflecting Bruno Gatta’s vision and Stilnovo’s craftsmanship.
Bruno Gatta, the director and head of design at Stilnovo for much of its history, founded the Stilnovo publishing house in 1946 in Lainate, an industrial suburb of Milan. From 1952 to 1955, Stilnovo operated with true industrial logic, unlike other Italian brands such as Arredoluce and O’Luce. Experimentation with new materials and shapes was central to its production method. Until the late 1960s, most designs were produced by the company’s technical office, initially led by Bruno Gatta and later by Gaetano Scolari, bearing the brand’s signature. Bruno Gatta passed away in 1976 in his birthplace, Lainate.
