The Minimalist Table Lamp Model 8023, designed by Bruno Gatta and manufactured by Stilnovo in Italy in 1955, is a striking example of mid-century modern design. This minimalist table lamp features a conical-shaped base crafted from solid Carrara marble, providing a sturdy and elegant foundation. The brass angled stem adds a touch of warmth and sophistication, beautifully contrasting with the cool marble. The lamp’s neutral black-finished aluminum shade is thoughtfully designed, appearing round from a top view and half-rounded from the side. It is securely attached to the stem with two brass bolts, enhancing both its aesthetic appeal and structural integrity.
The lamp emits a soft, focused glow, making it ideal for reading or working, and serving as a perfect companion on a desk or small table. Maintained in very good original condition, this lamp retains its authentic Stilnovo sticker on the inside of the shade, a mark of its quality and heritage. The Model 8023 lamp is not only a functional lighting solution but also a timeless piece of design history, reflecting Bruno Gatta’s vision and Stilnovo’s craftsmanship.
Bruno Gatta was the director and head of design from Stilnovo almost during the entire period. He founded the Stilnovo publishing house in 1946 in Lainate, an industrial suburb of Milan. Despite its small scale, Stilnovo operated according to a true industrial logic from 1952-1955 – unlike other Italian brands, such as Arredoluce and O’Luce. Experimentation with new materials and shapes is at the heart of its production method. Until the second half of the 1960s, most of the designs were made by the company’s technical office, which was led by Bruno Gatta, then headed by Gaetano Scolari and bore the brand’s signature. Bruno Gatta died in 1976 in his birthplace Linate.
