Rare so called sunburst lamp model 2055/3 designed by Bruno Gatta and manufactured by Stilnovo, Italy 1950. This is the rare three armed version of this iconic design by Bruno Gatta. The lamp has a brass conical shaped base, and from there, three black metal arms go in different directions. At the end of each arm, there’s a brass bowl with little holes where the lightbulbs can bee seen and give off a soft glow. It’s got this sputnik-like feel to it. The brass has this original dark patina from age, giving it a unique look. It’s completely rewired and checked in our atelier.
A similar 7-arm model is documented in the Stilnovo book.
This lamp is checked in our own atelier, cleaned and is suitable for use in the USA.
Bruno Gatta was the director and head of design from Stilnovo almost during the entire period. He founded the Stilnovo publishing house in 1946 in Lainate, an industrial suburb of Milan. Despite its small scale, Stilnovo operated according to a true industrial logic from 1952-1955 – unlike other Italian brands, such as Arredoluce and O’Luce. Experimentation with new materials and shapes is at the heart of its production method. Until the second half of the 1960s, most of the designs were made by the company’s technical office, which was led by Bruno Gatta, then headed by Gaetano Scolari and bore the brand’s signature. Bruno Gatta died in 1976 in his birthplace Linate.
