The ‘Helga’ floor lamp, designed by Silvio Bilangione and produced by Fumagalli in Italy in 1967, is a striking testament to timeless design and innovative craftsmanship. Its spherical shade, crafted from bent pieces of steam-formed plywood, creates a warm and captivating light diffusion, adding elegance to any space. Despite its seemingly metal-like appearance, the lamp’s shade is a masterful example of the interplay between form and material, showing the enduring appeal of mid-century Italian design.
The lamp’s stem and base, made of solid wood painted in an off-white hue, further enhances its minimalist aesthetic. At first glance, the painted finish gives the illusion of a metal structure, but the wooden construction adds both weight and stability, ensuring the piece is as functional as it is beautiful. The unique form evokes the classical elegance of a modern Roman pillar, blending traditional references with contemporary innovation.
This floor lamp is not just a source of light but a sculptural centerpiece, making it a highly decorative and collectible design object. In excellent and fully original condition, it showcases a design that has stood the test of time, offering both historical significance and enduring beauty. Whether placed in a living space or a curated collection, the ‘Helga’ floor lamp is a stunning example of Italian mid-century modern design at its finest.
