This beautiful so called ‘Latini’ coffee table was designed by Sergio Rodrigues and manufactured by OCA, Brazil 1965. This table is lighter and more minimalist than a good part of the Sérgio Rodrigues oeuvre. The table consists of a solid rosewood four-leg cross frame and has an original quartz top. The frames connection points are finished with chrome cap details which were basically a trademark for Rodrigues’ works as many of his designs have this finish. It was not only a practical solution to hide the screws inside, but he designed this in a way that it became also a part of the aesthetics and the style of his works. This table is a rare find with its original top which has been recently polished. This outstanding “Latini” coffee table can bring a sense of elegance and innovation to basically any style of interior design and décor. The table is in very good condition, as mentioned the quartz top is newly polished and the rosewood frame is in excellent original condition with very minor wear from age and usage.
Rodrigues’s prolific ability to apply tropical woods in different ways and shapes, always extremely original and creative made him one of the most important mid-century Brazilian designers. Architect and designer, along with Joaquim Tenreiro and Jorge Zalszupin, Rodrigues was the pioneer to transform Brazilian design into industrial design and make it known worldwide. “The piece of furniture is not just the shape, not just the material which is made but also something inside it. It’s the piece’s spirit. It’s the Brazilian spirit. It’s the Brazilian furniture” (Sergio Rodrigues). His works are in collections all around the world and this rare table could most certainly add something unique to your home or interior. As it is minimal but also has body.
