Amazing and one of a kind sculptural bench made by an unknown artist in the Netherlands in the 1970s. The bench is made from ash wood that is hand-sculpted. It has a wonderful organic shape and an orange/brown hue. The multiple layers of the wood are built up really beautiful. The bench has two backrests that are fluently connected. In the middle of the two cognac leather seats is nice little sculpture. The leather seats are original and have a cool patina that adds character. On the left side it has a triangular table. The straight lines are a fantastic contrast to whole the right side. This bench is really stunning from every angle and the way it plays with light is unparalleled. It’s a unique piece probably inspired by the works of Wendell Castle and a real eye-catcher. Truly one-of-a-kind design and therefore a one-of-a-kind opportunity! We have another similar bench in stock from the same home which is differently shaped and larger, visible on the last pictures.
Wendell Castle was famous for his pioneering use of stack-lamination, a woodworking technique he introduced in the 1960s. It was based on a 19th-century sculptural technique used for making duck decoys. Stack-lamination allowed Castle to create large blocks of wood out a series of planks, which were then carved and moulded into the biomorphic shapes for which he is best known.
The leather is reconditioned with a leather care product special for vintage leather. To give the leather some strength, color, and protection again after many years of usage.
