Monumental sculpture by Robert Murray McCheyne and made in his own atelier in the UK in 1972. The sculpture is made from solid oak and has a unique abstract shape. The wood has a really nice pattern and the sculpture starts with two shapes at the bottom that come together just above the middle. From there it’s all beautifully carved out and in the middle there’s an opening. The top part is a little bit angled. Plays beautifully with light. A one of a kind piece that’s a true conversation starter. Oak is a beautiful wood. It has a unique appearance that shows its high quality with rich hues and a nice grain pattern. Its rustic look can instantly make any space more charming and full of character.
McCheyne was a sculptor and teacher who attended Edinburgh College of Art from 1930-35, studying under Alexander Carrick. Between 1936-38 he furthered his knowledge by travelling to Copenhagen, Athens and Florence. In the 1950s and 1960s he became Master of Sculpture at King’s College, University of Newcastle and whilst there undertook various public commissions. In the mid-1950s he came under the influence of Henry Moore.
