Very nice adjustable wall lamp model 242p designed by Robert Mathieu, France 1957. The dark grey painted metal structure is not only visually beautiful but also adjustable in numerous positions. Its white plexiglass shade, skilfully mounted on a flexible metal arm, provides a soft and diffused glow when lit. This lamp shows a perfect blend of form and function. Its fully adjustable design allows you to tailor the lighting to your liking, making it both versatile and practical. Lamp is in good original condition with a gentle patina to the metal structure.
Born in 1921, Robert Mathieu trained at the famous ‘Ecole Boulle’ before working as a watchmaker. In 1949, he opened his first lighting store and subsequently expanded his business with the opening of three establishments in Paris. His eponymous production house edited the works of the greatest designers of his time, such as Michel Buffet and Jean-Boris Lacroix. Mobilising his watchmaker’s expertise in his approach to design, his lights compete with ingenuity. He defines his pieces as ‘rational lighting’, focusing on functionality before form. Mathieu favours pure and soft lines that give his creations elegance and lightness.
