Striking shaped large lounge chair called ‘Lord’ designed by Ric Deforche and manufactured by Gervan, Belgium 1970. Deforche was in charge of creating a whole line called G-Collection. This line brought a fresh and stylish look to Gervan’s usual designs. It’s made with brown leather and steel, which is a classic combination in modern design.
The segmented ‘spine’ foam-filled seating gives the lounge chair a beautiful shape and a lively feel, making it very, very comfortable. The nice stitching and button finish give the chair an extra dimension in terms of luxury and appearance. The solid chrome-plated steel base, especially the legs, adds a nice touch to the design. In its original dark brown leather which is in very good condition with a small mark on the bottom cushion.
Erik Deforce was a designer from Belgium who loved the styles of the sixties, especially from Italy and Scandinavia. His best work, the ‘the Lord’ lounge chair from 1970, shows his passion for this kind of design. In 1970, Erik Deforce introduced the G-Collection at the 2nd Interieur Biennale in Kortrijk.
The show was presented by the Gervan Company in Ingelmunster, where Deforce worked as a manager and chief designer. Popular pieces like ‘Lord,’ a vintage classic, ‘Viterbo,’ and ‘Twen’ were followed by visionary designs like ‘The President,’ ‘Hilton,’ and ‘Modulor.’ ‘Lord,’ Deforce’s masterpiece, has a sleek design based on the human body’s ergonomics and structure. It can easily be compared to Le Corbusier’s famous chaise longue LC4 in terms of appearance and design.
