Highly rare pair of wall lamps designed by Pietro Chiesa and manufactured by Fontana Arte in Italy in 1940. These early wall lamps have a solid brass structure and milk glass shades in an abstract flower shape. A nice detail is the brass star which holds the shades in position. The lamps consist of one main star like base which is fixed to the wall. Two long arms go up, one being slightly longer than the other and placed behind the other as well. This makes an interesting balance. The glass is held by a bent piece of brass, really subtile and airy. Very nice detailing in the design and typical Fontana Arte quality. Beautiful original patina to the brass and the glass shades are in excellent condition.
Fontana Arte was known for its outstanding quality lights and was only sold to the avant-garde from Italy. Also, because it was too expensive for regular earning people these lamps are rare. Makes the lights from Fontana Arte highly wanted and sought after on the market already for years. Pietro Chiesa was together with Max Ingrand one of the most important designers of Fontana Arte who brought the brand to the top of the market.
Priced and sold in a set of 2.
