Unique Vintage Vase by Pietro Chiesa This special vase was designed by Pietro Chiesa in 1932 and made by Fontana Arte until the 1970s. It’s a decorative piece made from frosted grey glass and has a lovely “Cartoccio” shape, like a paper bag. What makes it even more characteristic is that each vase is a bit different because they were all made by hand.
Pietro Chiesa, part of a prominent artistic family from Ticino, Switzerland, started his own glass-making shop in 1921 after learning the trade at Giannotti glassworks. In the early 1920s, he showcased his work at various exhibitions in Venice, Monza, Paris, Cologne, and Barcelona. His creations, marked by modernity and technical prowess, include the glass windows for the Trieste Stock Exchange and transatlantic liner Conte di Savoia. In 1932, Gio Ponti invited Chiesa to co-direct the newly established Fontana Arte, where he designed over a thousand objects, some of which, like the Fontana curved table (1932) and the Luminator floor lamp (1933), remain iconic in design history. Priced and sold individually.
