This coffee table is and early example of the T08 model, designed by renowned French cabinetmaker Pierre Chapo and crafted in his own workshop during the 1970s. The table features a rectangular top and four sturdy legs, all made from solid oak wood. It showcases Chapo’s signature square connections, which are left visibly exposed—a design element also embraced by fellow designer Charlotte Perriand. Another nice feature on this table is the square connections where the feet are fixed, visible through the top, it adds a playful aesthetic. The oak wood has developed a rich patina over time, enhancing its character while remaining in outstanding condition.
Although Pierre Chapo predominantly worked with elmwood, he occasionally used other types of wood, such as oak, walnut, and cedar, often for private commissions. This particular T08 table in oak boasts a beautiful tan hue and a distinctive wood grain, characteristic of the material. Its calm, natural color makes it a versatile piece that complements any mid-century modern interior. Pierre Chapo’s work is celebrated alongside that of iconic designers like Charlotte Perriand and Jean Prouvé. His furniture is highly sought after by collectors, revered for the exceptional craftsmanship and innovative thinking that Chapo brought to each creation. This T08 coffee table transcends its functional purpose, standing as a collectible piece that epitomizes mid-century design at its finest. Its elegance is in its simplicity, where beauty is revealed in the meticulous details and the masterful woodworking techniques that Chapo was known for.
