Very beautiful and brutalist white rectangular coffee table, made in Holland in 1979 by Paul Kingma. The overall condition is very good, despite being light there are no signs of filth or stains of usage. There is only a very slight bend in the top, because of the weight of the top itself on it’s foot. Nice and soft colour scheme and composition with the slate, concrete and brass details including a shape that looks like a sunburst, which you can see is layed in the middle. Most tables that are made by Kingma are dark, but this one is white, and those white ones are quite rare. Signed Paul Kingma on a brass plate inlayed in the top.
Paul Kingma was well known for his architectural tables that pay a tribute to the riches of Nature by traveling extensively in search of rare materials, whether raw or industrially produced. He combines recourse to materials used in architecture like stone, metal and concrete, with rich varied materials as brass, copper, glass or ceramic. All his tables are unique one off productions and when he got famous, most were special client’s orders. All his tables are marked, the early ones only at the bottom, from the 1960s he started marking them with a metal tag at the top and later he also added the production year.
