This impressive, nice sized coffee table was handcrafted by Paul Kingma in his own atelier in the Netherlands in 1979. The square tabletop features a captivating mosaic of orange and brown tiles, arranged in a layout with four color segments on each side, centered around a striking brass circle. Scattered across the surface are small, detailed brass circles with stones at their centers, creating an ever-changing visual experience as you discover new pieces, forms, and colors within the hues of orange, grey, black, and brown.
The base of the table is constructed from two black metal L-folded structures, providing stability through a clever design that maximizes strength with minimal material use. The table is marked with a brass tag on the top that reads ‘Kingma ’79’.
Paul Kingma’s deep love for nature is evident in this table. He traveled extensively to gather unique materials such as stone, metal, concrete, brass, copper, glass, and ceramic. Each of his tables is a one-of-a-kind piece, meticulously handcrafted to reflect the beauty of the natural world. Born in The Hague, Kingma studied art in Arnhem before training at the Rijks Akademie (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Throughout his career, he was commissioned to create several sculptures for public spaces in Dutch cities, including Utrecht, Eindhoven, and Amersfoort.
