This large, unique coffee table, designed by Paul Kingma and handcrafted in his own workshop in the Netherlands during the 1970s, is an exquisite example of functional art. The table features a black multi-leg base, which gives it an elegant, airy look, preventing it from feeling bulky despite its substantial size. The tabletop is a work of art, blending a variety of materials in a striking mosaic. Notable elements include an orange/red square accented by light and dark green tiles, and a group of pebbles that provide contrast against the darker stone. The rich mix of colors—orange, green, yellow, rust-brown—creates a dynamic surface that reveals something new with each glance. A brass tag on the tabletop proudly bears the name KINGMA, marking it as one of his unique creations.
Paul Kingma’s deep love for nature is evident in this table, as he sourced materials from around the world, including stone, metal, concrete, brass, copper, glass, and ceramics. Each of his tables is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, meticulously handcrafted with care and precision, reflecting his dedication to merging art and the natural world.
Born in The Hague, Kingma studied art in Arnhem and continued his training at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Arts in London. In addition to his furniture work, he was commissioned to create public sculptures for Dutch cities such as Utrecht, Eindhoven, and Amersfoort, further showcasing his artistic impact and legacy.
