Niels Møller model 71 dining chairs in teak Denmark 1951

Exceptionally large set of 12 Model 71 chairs designed by Niels Otto Møller and manufactured by J.L. Møller Møbelfabrik in Denmark in 1951. These chairs are not only beautiful but also very practical. They’re crafted from solid teak wood and have a lovely original color. They’ve also been reupholstered with a stylish dark grey fabric so they are in great condition again. Marked with the Niels Moller mark at the underside of each seat. These chairs have a special carved wooden backrest and a clever design that uses strong plug-in connections with pins at the corners of the seat. This design means they don’t need extra connections between the legs, giving them a light and elegant look.

Niels Otto Møller created some of the most adored designs in 20th c. Danish furniture.  Møller completed his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker in 1939 and then continued on to study at the design academy in Århus, Denmark. In 1944, he founded J.L. Møllers Møbelfabrik A/S, a company for which he produced designs and managed the production. The company is still active and family-owned. N.O. Møller is known for the elegance of his furniture and highly-skilled craft. Twentieth-century Danish design was founded upon the principle that beauty is found by stripping away ornamentation rather than adding it, requiring the craftsman to rely on the materials, form and skill of their own hand. Møller often worked solely in rosewood and teak, which accentuated the elegant curves of his designs. Møller’s designs are some of the most timeless and sought-after pieces today.
