Nice and interesting marble sculpture carved from Mondragone marble by an unknown Italian artist in the 70’s. The object which is symmetrical, looks minimalistic and is very smooth, not only by touch but also to the eye. The cutout part and sloped angle gives it a feel of movement. It has a nice modest size and would make a great object to display on top of a sideboard, table or addition to any already excisting mix of eclectic elements. There is an unknown monogram marking on the bottom, and appear to be a ‘C’ and ‘K’ pictured.
Mondragone lies in the Campania region, in the South-West of Italy and the marble is a slightly metamorphosed carbonate rock, which has been used since ancient times. It is known for it’s grey and brown shades, and dramatic visual veins, patterns and shapes. Popular contemporary examples of Mondragone are ‘Eros’ series tables by Angelo Mangiarotti.
