This modular bookcase, designed and crafted by Mobilia, Italy in the 1970s, is a beautiful and versatile example of mid-century modern design. Made from high-quality teak veneer and solid teak parts, this shelving system is composed of 11 uniquely sized and shaped cabinet modules, which can be configured in a variety of ways to suit different spaces and functional needs.
Whether used as one large statement bookcase, divided into two medium-sized units, broken down into four smaller compositions, or even as 11 individual cabinets, the modularity allows endless possibilities. Each element has its own distinct function: some are open for display, others are equipped with shelves, while some feature swing doors, drawer units, or even a roll-top compartment with a pull-out writing desk, reflecting the clever and practical Italian craftsmanship of the era.
The unit remains in good vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use. There are some surface scratches, particularly on the tops of the cabinets caused by stacking, though these marks are largely hidden when the unit is assembled.
This piece is a true representation of 1970s modular design, balancing form and function with the warm, rich tone of teak, and offering a stylish and adaptable solution for both storage and display.
