Michel Mangematin sculptural coffee table France 1965

Rare coffee table by Michel Mangematin and Roger Bruny and manufactured by Galeri Balt in France in 1965. Fantastic design of the solid bronze base that has a stretched three dimensional star-shaped form with beautiful made high gloss lining and edges that contrasts really nicely with the rough surface. Each segment of the base can be separate as a soft S shape, a shape that comes from the iconic Barcelona chair where Mangematin was influenced by. This table has a stunning sculptural presence. The base holds an oval glass top so you can enjoy the base from every angle, even from above. The glass top is in excellent condition.

In 1987, French architect Michel Mangematin moved to the United States to learn from famous architects Frank Lloyd Wright and Ludwig Mies Van der Rohe. Their ideas deeply influenced him throughout his life. Although he admired their work, Mangematin only made three furniture pieces: a dining table, a low table, and an armchair that never got made. These pieces had legs similar to the well-known Barcelona armchair. While he mostly focused on architecture, he also taught at the Clermont-Ferrand school.
