A refined and sophisticated ceiling light designed by Max Ingrand for Fontana Arte, Italy, in the late 1960s. This piece showcases a matte opaline glass diffuser paired with a mesmerizing inner blown-glass elemented shape that evokes the appearance of a celestial body, offering a truly distinctive and atmospheric visual experience. The ceiling mount is made from solid brass, showing a rich, aged patina that adds character. Three black-painted rods support the fixture; these have minor wear to the paint due to age, though restoration is available upon request to return them to their original finish. This particular model is documented in the 1967 Fontana Arte catalogue (no. 7). Apart from the light wear on the supporting rods, the piece is in excellent original condition, with the glass remaining flawless. It’s a rare and striking design that brings a sense of elegance and charm to any interior.

The lamp has been fully inspected and cleaned in our own workshop and is ready for use in the United States.

Max Ingrand was a highly regarded French-Italian designer and architect, celebrated for his exceptional work in decorative arts and lighting. Born on November 20, 1908, in Bressuire, France, Ingrand’s artistic path began early. He studied at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he refined his artistic vision and attention to detail. After relocating to Italy in 1929, he became a naturalized citizen and developed a prolific career in design.

Throughout his lifetime, Ingrand collaborated with leading design houses such as Fontana Arte—where he served as artistic director—and Arteluce. His designs are renowned for their blend of innovative materials like glass, brass, and wood, and his unique ability to fuse functionality with artistry.

Known for their clean lines, graceful forms, and balance, Ingrand’s lighting pieces often showcased masterful glasswork and thoughtful proportions. Beyond lighting, he also made significant contributions to architecture, redesigning interiors for luxury hotels, civic buildings, and private homes. His architectural projects echoed his commitment to creating elegant and cohesive spaces that harmonized with their surroundings.
