Very nice large sized coffee table by Mario Marenco and manufactured by Mobil Girgi, Italy 1975. Fantastic low and large-sized coffee table made from a combination of walnut and ash, the table features a striking striped design on the top, where the two woods are glued together and sculpted. The mix of orange, brown, and yellow tones creates a beautiful contrast. The edges are thoughtfully rounded, giving it a softer look. The base of the table serves a dual purpose, functioning as both a support structure and a practical basket. It’s made from black painted metal with a unique die-cut pattern. This makes it perfect for storing items like books and magazines. This coffee table has influences from Japanese design styles of its time. In original condition with age related wear. Unique in its large size.
Mario Marenco was born in 1933. He studied architecture in Naples and won research grants for Stockholm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened in Rome his own atelier of architecture and design named Studio DEGW in Rome. During his career as an architect, he taught at the University of Sydney and worked with companies such as B&B, Arflex and Poltrana Frau. Mario Marenco is also known for his appearances on TV but his career as an actor and humorist has never overshadowed his predisposition for design.
