Beautiful set of six Sapporo chairs designed by Mario Marenco and manufatured by Mobil Grigi in Italy, 1970. These iconic chairs are made from Italian walnut with a striking grain pattern. Their original seats have aged really nicely and now have a charming patinated appearance. What sets these chairs apart is their distinctive design feature: a hammer-shaped backrest that not only is aesthetic but also offers great support. With wide and comfortable seats, they are ideal for extended dining sessions. Another notable aspect of these chairs is the way they are put together. Two slim slats running from the top of the backrest to the bottom, where they are put together with a horizontal slat. This minimalist design give the chairs with a modern and elegant look similar to Scapa’s designs. Nice large set available of 12 of these chairs. Listing is for 6 chairs with a nice dark patina. The table on the pictures is not included and can be purchased here.
Kindly note that this listing and the price is for 6 chairs. The other set of 6 chairs are available here.
Mario Marenco was born in 1933. He studied architecture in Naples and won research grants for Stockholm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened in Rome his own atelier of architecture and design named Studio DEGW in Rome. During his career as an architect, he taught at the University of Sydney and worked with companies such as B&B, Arflex and Poltrana Frau. Mario Marenco is also known for his appearances on TV but his career as an actor and humorist has never overshadowed his predisposition for design. Mobilgirgi was an Italian company producer of high quality furniture, founded in 1968 in Cantù, in the province of Como.
