The table lamp model M5, designed by Joseph-André Motte and manufactured by Disderot in France in 1960, stands as an iconic representation of mid-century modern design. Crafted with a solid brass structure, this early version of the M5 table lamp showcases the elegant simplicity and innovative approach characteristic of Motte’s work. The lamp’s brass structure is not only durable but also adds a touch of sophistication with its warm, golden hue. The design features a curved brass form, providing a sleek and seamless appearance that highlights the craftsmanship involved in its creation.

A distinctive feature of the M5 table lamp is its two sculptural Perspex shades. These shades, designed to interconnect like puzzle pieces, offer both functionality and artistic appeal. The translucent nature of the Perspex diffuses light softly, creating a warm and inviting ambiance. The shades’ unique design ensures an even distribution of light, enhancing the overall aesthetic and practical use of the lamp. Maintained in excellent original condition, this lamp is more than a functional light source; it is a collector’s item, revered for its historical significance and timeless beauty. The M5 table lamp by Joseph-André Motte remains a sought-after piece for collectors and enthusiasts of mid-century modern design, embodying the elegance and innovation of a bygone era.
