Small side table ‘Mesa Lateral’ designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured in his own company L’Atelier, Brazil 1959. Mesa Lateral or side table is a mixture of constructivist techniques with signature finishes and therefore almost looks like a sculpture. A brass button holds a thick sheet of hardened glass into the centre of a solid cone shaped wooden pillar, that is interrupted at the bottom with a crossed feet that slightly hovers. In order to support the glass top, a piece of round turned tulip shaped solid wood is made to look like to be part of the foot itself. The base is made of beautiful solid jacaranda rosewood and has a stunning grain to the wood. The table is in excellent fully original condition with minor surface scratches to the glass. The brass knob has a nice patina from age and is a nice detail to this design. A very nice side table which would look amazing next to a Zalszupin chair for example, as shown on the pictures.
