Minimalistic set of 4 Itmaraty chairs designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his own company L’Atelier, Brazil 1960. Standing firmly and yet look very light, the Itamaraty is created with a frame that is built op from square shaped solid rose wooden slats, that do not change shape with the exception of the angled backrest. By adding this detail, besides comfort, a sophisticated look is created. What makes it also interesting is that the seating is wedged in between the wooden frame, as the seat folds over the sides except the corners, where cut-outs have been made. The Itamatary model is made in a leather or in this case suede upholstery, with a striking diagonal stitched pattern running over the seat. Unlike his other works, where details are often placed in plain sight, the aim of the Itamaraty is to conceal all of the joinery. Because of its angled backrest, striking similarities can be found in the Poltrona 720. The chairs are in fantastic original condition, with minor wear to the suede, giving it a very nice patina, which adds a lot of character to the set. 2 Chairs still have their original L’Atelier label on the bottom of the canvas. The chairs are sturdy, and the rosewood has a beautiful colour which is still the original, slightly faded and untouched look it has gotten from ages of use.
