Large double sized daybed designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured in his own company L’Atelier, Brazil 1959. This daybed is another rare and early design by Jorge is this oeuvre. As only few have been made, not much is known about the exact years it was produced. Presumably, since they are early models and handmade, until the early sixties. Solid plywood slats run across the solid rosewood sides, that function as a base for the metal hairpin feet and holder for the mattress but above all, have a great aesthetic value. The bed is designed to be freestanding, a quite uncommon sight before the late fifties, and therefore is a fine example of how boundaries were pushed in both architecture and interior design. A nice detail in this design is the similarity with the patchwork design by Zalszupin, only in this bed solid pieces of rosewood were used. The bed is in very good original condition, the mattress is newly made with a sand-coloured bouclé fabric. A very nice and had to find piece of design by Zalszupin.
