Bulky pair of ‘Cubo’ club chairs designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by his own company L’Atelier, Brazil 1959. Cubo chairs and sofas, made in the 1970’s show how the design language responded and created new trends, but still manage to hold their distinctive character. Boldness and hard lines were the basic principle in the design of the Cubo chair, which literally translates into ‘cube’. The seat with its round curves appears to be scooped out of the cube. The bottom seems to be floating, with a black ebonized plywood base that falls back under the seat itself and creates shadow. Besides the chairs, sofas, tables, and poofs were also made. However, it is not clear how many of them were made since they are hard to come across. The chairs are reupholstered some time ago in a grey blue upholstery, but it was not properly done as it was supposed to, so we advise reupholstery for more comfort. The chairs are marked with an inventory tag on the front side, this is the inventory nr of the bank where they come from. We have a matching sofa available as well, which also needs new upholstery. The chairs are priced and sold in a set of 2.
