Absolutely stunning sideboard from the Componivel (modular) series designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured by L’Atelier, Brazil 1959. These modular sideboards were present from an early stage in the career of Zalszupin, as he provided custom furniture for high end interior projects. Bookcases, wall systems and sideboards played a significant role on his journey towards the creation of L’Atelier. As these cabinets came into fashion for both homes and offices, numerous sizes were available for a long period. This resulted in the creation of lots of different models until the early seventies. Where the customer could mostly choose the components and sizes they needed, you will not find many identical ones. Which makes them fairly unique. This specific sideboard is made or imbuia patches of veneer which have a beautiful grain to the wood and also show a very nice honey coloured patina. The sideboard is finished in the characteristic patches which Zalszupin has basically a trademark on. This idea was an initiative for the rationalization and use of left-over scraps of wood available at the factory, allowing, at the same time a combination of their different colorings, creating a stuning and unique pattern in each piece that was made. This sideboard has 4 folding doors with starage space inside. It is also finished all around, so you could put it in the middle of a space as well.
Jorge Zalszupin was one of the most brilliant and important designers of the 20th century, with an impressive and large oeuvre. In a short period of time he has created many different buildings as an architect, but also furniture which is still modern at this present day. Works by Zalszupin are being collected all over the world, and not for no reason.
