Monumental sized bookcase from the componivel series designed by Jorge Zalszupin and manufactured in his own company L’Atelier, Brazil 1959. Modular shelving systems or bookcases (Modulados Compiníveis) are systems that were available in many different models and options. Their main feature was their modularity, clean lines, and multi-level storage. Besides being storage solutions with great aesthetic value, these systems could also function as room dividers and were perfect hybrids for offices as well as private living spaces. This specific bookcase has a very nice a-symmetrical shape. All the cabinets are covered with Zalszupins characteristic patches of rosewood, which give the bookcase a very 3-dimensional feel. And the block pieces feature “inverted” handles in pairs, that are distinctive of Zalszupin, and contribute to the elegant and modern look of this shelving systems design. The patches of rosewood have a variety of tones, colours, and veins. This bookcase has besides the cabinets and drawers also 2 dividing shelves which are finished in cork. These are in exceptional condition and contribute to the aesthetics of this room divider. The unit provides several different sizes of storage units, with drawers and folding doors. It features plenty of options for different types of use. One of the cabinets has the Atelier sticker on top of it. This is only visible when dis assembled. This unit being a-symmetrical, its most probably a unique piece and made on client’s order.
