Rare and very collectable examples of the “Bossche school” furniture by architect Jan de Jong . Together with Dom Hans van der Laan, de Jong who started out as Dom Hans’ student, stood at the beginning of the architectural movement in which it was common to design furniture and bespoke interior features specifically for a building . These chairs are designed according to ‘het plastische getal’ (plastic number) which was invented by Dom Hans van der Laan. Jan de Jong was the most forward executer of the design by Dom Hans, according to his own words de Jong was his most briliant student. The chairs are made of pine wooden planks, nailed on an inner wooden structure. The nails give the pieces an extra dimension and was a trademark for works from de Bossche School. It charactarizes the pieces and it was a clear choice to choose for very visible nails, for that matter the carpentry had to be perfectly aligned, which it always was. The chairs were made in the early 1970s and have been repainted some years ago in the original colour but show gentle patina. It was a private commission made by Jan de Jong, for a private home in Oirschot. Priced and sold per chair, stool available in another listing.
