Smooth and very compelling granite sculpture made by visual artist Hein Mader in 1970. This piece is crafted out of a solid piece of granite and rotates on its metal stand. The form is reaching upward and expands doing so, which gives a feel of optimism. Sloping surfaces are interrupted by hard lines as if there is a ongoing search between luicidity and calculated shapes, with a lot of movement involved. As this moment is captured in stone, the outcome may vary from which angle the artwork is seen. This piece is in excellent condition without any damages and is signed HM on the bottom.
Heinrich Josef Mader was born on March 9, 1925 in Willendorf, Austria, the son of a cabinet maker. In 1945 the family fled from the Red Army. Because of love, he ended up in Amsterdam in 1960 where he began working at the Rijksakademie. When he was 46 years old, he quit his job and started making images “to make a positive contribution to this time”. “A voice in me said that I had to revolt against all those nasty, sickening elements in society,” he said in an interview. “I tried to organize the chaos in myself in order to bring it out in the form of images.”
