Extraordinary Hans Wegner China chairs designed in 1944 and manufactured by Fritz Hansen in Denmark in 1967. This set of 6 chairs, made of solid rosewood, is an incredibly rare find. Early rosewood versions rarely appear on the market, often only as individual chairs or pairs. This exceptional set, in its fully original and untouched condition, is a true museum-worthy treasure, complete with leather seats. There are many beautiful aesthetics to this chair. The organic shaped armrests which flow into the back. The front and sides of the seat which are milled out or the outstanding vertically placed backrest which is bend like a wave. A true masterpiece.
Hans J. Wegner designed the China Chair with inspiration from the timeless elegance of ancient Chinese design from the 17th and 18th centuries. Reflecting his deep fascination with wood and its possibilities, this chair exemplifies his skill as a master wood craftsman and his talent for combining functionality with sculptural beauty. Wegner’s modern interpretation of Chinese aesthetics results in a harmonious blend of expressive design and practical purpose. The China Chair shows Wegner’s idea that furniture should be like a beautiful work of art from every angle and is a celebration of handcrafted forms and the beauty of natural materials. As freestanding monuments to craftsmanship and design, these chairs offer a glimpse into the profound connection between human creativity and the raw elegance of wood.
