This impressive dining or conference table, designed by Hans von Klier and produced by Gruppo Skipper in Italy in the 1970s, exemplifies refined Italian modernism. With a spacious, solid cherry wood top, this table has a distinct central cut line that gives the illusion of a two-part tabletop, adding a thoughtful design detail to the piece. Supported by two polished, T-shaped stainless steel legs with wooden insides are in good condition with slight user signs which are age related, the table combines natural warmth with sleek modernity, creating a sophisticated and inviting aesthetic. The high-gloss finish on the steel legs complements the rich cherry wood surface, highlighting both materials’ quality and craftsmanship.

The table’s substantial build and premium materials lend it exceptional durability and stability, making it ideal for gatherings or meetings. Its generous size accommodates up to 10 chairs comfortably, and even up to 12 if paired with slightly narrower seating options. Although the chairs displayed with the table in the listing are not included, they can be purchased separately HERE.

Hans von Klier, an Austrian-born designer, worked from 1960-1968 in Ettore Sottsass Jr.’s studio, where he contributed to groundbreaking designs for Olivetti, particularly in office equipment and furnishing systems. His work during this period was recognized with exhibitions at the Triennale in Milan, and in 1962, he held his own exhibition on didactic toys at the gallery “Il Sestante” in Milan. Throughout his career, von Klier’s work continued to receive international acclaim, earning him roles as a juror for awards such as the German Federal Award “GUTE FORM,” ESAG Paris, SMAU Milan, and the iF Design Award in Hannover. He was also invited to lecture on modern design at universities and institutions worldwide. Today, von Klier’s legacy lives on in his diverse range of creations, from corporate and interior design to iconic furniture pieces like this Gruppo Skipper table, which brings an element of timeless, functional elegance to any space.
