Very nice abstract shaped sculpture made and sculpted by Hans Maier, Belgium 1970s. made from solid black granite. It has a fantastic graphic drawing on its sleek surface. The shape of the sculpture lets your imagination run wild, in its purest abstract form. Hans Maier was a self-taught artist but unfortunately, he got sick quickly and couldn’t keep sculpting. So, there are only a very few pieces he made, and he mostly kept them for himself. This particular sculpture was bought directly from his family. In excellent condition. Pedestal is not included.
Belgian Black Blue Stone, also known as Petit Granit or Pierre Blue, is a unique and long-lasting natural limestone with a dark, smoky colour and hues of charcoal grey and sometimes brown. It’s dug up in places like Fontaine l’Évêque and Warnant in Wallonia, Belgium, and has a large geological backstory. Created from compressed limestone mud with fossils like crinoids and corals, the stone has a special appearance. After a good polish, it shows off a beautiful dark shade, highlighted by light grey and white fossils, and sometimes has cool calcite veins. Used globally in architecture and design, especially perfect for sculpting.
