This is for an amazing pair of lounge chairs designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen, Denmark 1951. This model was the first sawbuck chair, and it was a truly Wegnerian creation in every detail. The tapered legs thicken at the joinery. The back support has been cut free from the bearing structure, giving the chair a sense of lightness. Despite its armrests, which float in the modernist fashion, the chair is quite stable. The highly organic armrests look like flippers. Wegner played with two types of wood, teak and oak, and the solid seat mounting creates a decorative element. This is for a pair of very early examples in amazing pristine condition and minimal patina from age and usage. The chairs come from first owner and were never used really intense cause they were bought as element of art. For sure one of Wegners most progressive designs. Would be a great addition to any modern home or interior.
