Elegant pair of side tables dsigned by Giuseppe Scapinelli, Brazil 1955. Very nice and elegant pair of side tables. In beautiful solid warm brown Caviuna wood which is a very light rosewood but shows strong veins. The marble tops in off-white show light veins and a little glare and these tops are in great original condition. The tables consist of a round top which has a light bent edge making it an elegant shape. The four feet are organically shaped. The top of the feet slightly point outwards making it look like the top floats a bit. The feet at the bottom point outwards and a wooden ring in the middle holds them together. Wonderful clean design but with a rich and beautiful appearance. The tables are in very good condition.
Kindly note that these are priced and sold in a set of 2.
Giuseppi Scapinelli (1891-1982) was a designer, furniture maker and dealer in Sao Paulo. Scapinelli, born in Italy, was a designer who was on top of the zeitgeist. His designs are voluptuous, generous and comfortable. The rounded curves combined with the clean lines of the back hint towards his Italian origins. Unlike some of his famous contemporaries, Scapinelli sank into relative obscurity after passing away in 1982. It took almost 30 years before connoisseurs and collectors got to rediscover him and his fantastic designs: finally, Scapinelli is back where he belongs, among the great masters of Brazilian modern. Luckily Scapinelli left a broad body of work with many different and many beautiful pieces of furniture, only sold in Brazil so very rarely seen in Europe.
