Extraordinairy butterfly-shaped dining table designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli and made in a local workshop in Brazil in 1950. This amazingly and unique hardwood structure is an artwork on its own. This is a perfect example of Scapinelli’s work where his designs are often described as soft, generous and organic. Its best of both worlds packed in one designer. Its a graphical piece with details that speak for their own like the way the edges of the feet are shaped or the connection where the different wood parts meet. The wooden structure is in very good original condition. The base carries the glass top which is in excellent condition. The table can fit 4 to 8 chairs around it, due to the large sized top.
Kindly note that the chairs on the pictures are not included in this listing but can be purchased here.
Giuseppi Scapinelli (1891-1982) was a designer, furniture maker and dealer in Sao Paulo. Scapinelli, born in Italy, was a designer who was on top of the zeitgeist. His designs are voluptuous, generous and comfortable. The rounded curves combined with the clean lines of the back hint towards his Italian origins. Unlike some of his famous contemporaries, Scapinelli sank into relative obscurity after passing away in 1982. It took almost 30 years before connoisseurs and collectors got to rediscover him and his fantastic designs: finally, Scapinelli is back where he belongs, among the great masters of Brazilian modern. Luckily Scapinelli left a broad body of work with many different and many beautiful pieces of furniture, only sold in Brazil so very rarely seen in Europe.
