An amazing and exceptional brutalist shaped dining table by the Italian sculptor and designed Giuseppe Rivadossi, manufactured in his own workshop; officina Rivadossi, in Italy 1979. This large and colossal dining table has an amazing high level of craftsmanship, the solid walnut base consists of 5 pieces, cleverly puzzled together. The 2 bulky square centre bases consist of several small slats of solid walnut wood in different tones, which gives a distinctive aesthetic to the design and is visually very pleasing. The structure embodies a textured surface which is hand carved by gouge cut, which gives the piece the look where Rivadossi was known for as a sculptor. This solid dining table has a 3 cm thick glass top which compliments the bases. The top is in very good condition without marks on the corners/rims. There is only 1 very small pen point dent in the glass which is shown on one of the last pictures. One of the bases is also marked; ‘officina Rivadossi’ on the side. This is a unique one-of-a-kind table and one of the nicest examples of the Oeuvre from the hand of Rivadossi.
Giuseppe Rivadossi (1935) was born in Monteclana di Nave, Italy, where he still lives and works. At a young age, Rivadossi’s path begins with wood carving, with works reflecting on his poetic idea of living. In 1962 Rivadossi took over the carpentry founded in 1920 by his father Clemente, which he transformed into an atelier, or rather a creative workshop. Eventually, Rivadossi and collaborators established ‘Officina Rivadossi’ in 1976 where he started the manufacture of wooden objects and unique modern furniture. This specific table was made in ca 1979, shortly after the officina was opened.
