Highly rare floor lamp designed by Gino Sarfatti and manufactured by Arteluce, Italy 1953. This beautiful floor lamp is an early design by Sarfatti and it is the only one I saw on the market in the past 15 years of collecting. The lamp has a solid weighted steel base in grey finish, a brass arm and a yellow painted shade in original finish. The lamp has a frosted glass diffuser shade and still has its original brass ball on off pull cord with a white metal weight at the end. The lamp is in fully original condition and as you can see on the pictures there is some paint loss here and there. But this is preferred when a lamp is in its original state, for its age this lamp is fantastic and the wear it has is age related and only adds character. The lamp uses an E27 bulb up to 75 watt and can also be used with LED.
Born in Venice in 1912, Gino Sarfatti studied aero-naval engineering at the University of Genoa. In 1939, he launched the Arteluce company, a modern lighting design firm that quickly established itself as a successful international brand, as well as a meeting place for many of the leading Italian designers of the time. The designs by Gino Sarfatti are highly collected all over the world, makes is works sought after and difficult to buy, especially rare ones from the early period which were mostly produced in very small numbers.
