Gijs Bakker seatbelt chairs for Castelijn Netherlands 1978

This super rare lot of four easy chairs was designed by Gijs Bakker for Castelijn, Holland, in 1978. Known as the “Webbing Chair,” they quickly earned the nickname “Seatbelt Chair” due to their distinctive seats made of woven seatbelts. Designed in 1978, these chairs were produced for only a brief period, making them exceptionally rare. The Webbing Chair series included various models such as dining chairs and lounge chairs, available with or without arms. This particular set features the low and large easy chairs, which are the largest and most comfortable model in the series. They are crafted from grey lacquered beech wood with seats made of matching grey seatbelts, providing both durability and a unique aesthetic.
