Super nice set of 6 original Revolt dining chairs designed by Friso Kramer and manufactured by Ahrend de Cirkel, The Netherlands 1953. Though the Revolt chair was already designed in 1953, the production started in 1958. These chairs are rare because they were only used in several schools in Holland, these come from the TH Eindhoven production year 1960/1965. The chairs are labelled with the Ahrend de Cirkel logo and with the TH Eindhoven metal tag on the side of the frame, also impressed at the back (Ahrend de Cirkel). The chairs are good original condition and have abvious age related wear to the wood which gives them only character, the black lacquered metal frames are in excellent and clean condition. This is for a very nice set of 6 chairs. Most still have the TH Eindhoven tag on the side of the frames which relates to their provenance. Priced and sold in a set of 6, we have several others available in stock as well.
The designs of Friso Kramer are highly sought after because of their progressive designs. Even though this chair was designed in 1953, this is still in production at Ahrend. With few modern changes to the materials but the shape is still identical. Friso Kramer was a functionalist; all of his pieces are well thought about and amazingly executed. Even though most of his designs were produced in large numbers the process before that was really intense and time taking. And the result of that was a great production process with fantastic ergonomic result.
