Minimalistic side table designed Franco Buzzi and manufactured by Bazzani in Italy, 1950. Wonderful piece of design that has the appearance of a molecule. It has a round glass top that sits just above the middle sphere. Attached to the sphere are three tapered legs that point outwards and have little spheres on the bottom that are the feet. The table is super practical because it’s easy to move around due to the round handle. The table is refinished in its original high gloss black finish and is in excellent condition.
Franco Buzzi was an Italian architect, furniture, and lighting designer, gained fame for his postwar lighting designs and collaboration with Giuseppe Ostuni, another Italian designer. Born in 1912 in Milan, Buzzi studied at the Politecnico di Milano. After graduating in 1937, he worked as an architect and interior designer in Milan. His interiors, featuring warm and soft tones, quickly gained popularity. Buzzi also served as an Assistant Professor for Interior Design at the Milan Polytechnic from 1939 to 1942. In 1949, he opened his architect studio in Milan’s Brera district, a hub for artists and intellectuals. It was there that he befriended Giuseppe Ostuni and began creating his first lamps for Ostuni’s company, ‘O-LUCE,’ established in 1945 and now Italy’s oldest design studio.
