Monumental chandelier custom designed and made by Fog & Morup for the former General Motors showroom in Antwerp, 1960. This huge oversized chandelier / pendant lamp was hanging above the entrance fountain at General Motors, alongside smaller pendants and sconces by Fog & Morup. This unique piece is seriously impressive. It’s made of six solid copper tubes that can light up and down, placed in a uneven way which makes the design more interesting. The whole structure is held up by a big stem in the middle. The copper adds a really nice touch with its reflection and color, making it stand out in the surroundings.
Ansgar Fog (1880-1930) and Erik Mørup (1879-1972) started their business together in 1904 as a metalwork wholesaler. Two years later they moved to the capital Copenhagen and began to focus on lighting production and over the years taking over several electrical and lighting companies. It was only in the early 1960s that Fog & Mørup really emerged as a key force in lighting design, following the company’s appointment in 1957 of Jo Hammerborg as head of design.
